Society Thanks for letting us was founded twelve years ago when a group of young people decided to teach the community to celebrate 17 November. Gradually, their activities have grown and a number of other projects have been created to promote democracy. One of them is Velvet in schoolswhich involves hundreds of students from all over the Czech Republic every year.
I had the opportunity to be part of of the first year of the Academy and I was really looking forward to that first meeting. I was full of anticipation the whole day at school and checked my connection to the hotel and the meeting place at least six times.
The academy gave me a huge boost and it gave me the confidence and the feeling that I can do anything.
The first night was great. I sat down in a little cafe and that was the beginning of my adventure. The academy was filled with inspiration. I made a lot of contacts with guests, ambassadors and organizers. I had the chance to meet personalities who have been influencing me for a long time, such as Rozaria Haskovcou, Kovy's or Lukefry's. I also met Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková, the Government Commissioner for Human Rights, or with David Fiedler, founder of the organisation Don't put out. I met amazing scientists, students, directors and other people who are doing extraordinary things.
I left each meeting full of new experiences, information and skills. The academy gave me a huge boost and made me feel confident and confident that I can do anything. I would recommend it to anyone in my area. The experience and independence I gained is irreplaceable. The Academy has shown me the direction I want to take in life. It opened the door to opportunities such as an internship in Brussels or contacting the organisation Don't Extinguish.
I'm excited to see where this all takes me next.
